Welcome to my new blog. I am a massage therapist. For twenty years I’ve been working with, playing with, learning about, learning from, and appreciating the human body. The body is such a beautiful work of art, an amazing creation of genius and engineering, a magnificent expression of the human spirit.
Every body tells a story. Its genes tell the history of generations of ancestors. Its bones are like the beams of a building. The hair tells the story of what the body has been eating and assimilating. It’s form tells about what lifestyle it lives. It’s posture tells about the the person's daily habits and emotional constitution. The body's scars tells tell the stories of big events - accidents, illnesses, operations, pain, recovery.
If we listen, our bodies constantly tell us what we need. It’s a built in survival mechanism to maintain homeostasis, inner balance. The body tells us when to eat, move, rest, sleep. It tells us what kind of food it needs, what kind of clothing we should wear to be comfortable...if we listen. The body even tells us what to do, if we pay attention to those “gut feelings.”
The body is an intelligent organism, and over the course of time, it gathers experience and evidence which becomes wisdom. I hope to share with you here some of the things I’ve learned or observed, to share some of the interesting information that comes my way. I hope to encourage you to listen to the wisdom of your body, and to appreciate it and honor it as the wonder-ful sacred vehicle in which you make your life journey.
